This collection contains photocopies of correspondence between Charles Manning Furman, Jr. at Clemson College to "Aunt Dora" dated January 25, 1895, and one from Charles Manning Furman Jr. at Clemson College to "Aunt Ann" dated January 31, 1896. There is also a photocopy of an envelope addressed to Ann E. Furman postmarked November 8, 1894. In addition, there is a photocopy of a printed or typewritten work that was drafted around 1925, which states that Furman was aged 84 years old. The 1925 photocopy is a recollection of Charles Manning Furman's time as a combatant in the Civil War. It covers the Battle of Franklin, Battle of Antietam, and the Seven Days' Battles, an account of General Robert E. Lee, and the conclusion of hostilities.

Charles Manning Furman was born in Darlington County, S.C. on July 8, 1840. He was the son of Dr. James C. Furman (first President of Furman University), and the grandson of Richard Furman (Founder of Furman University).
